FAQ
What is a tooth gem?
A tooth gem is a small decorative crystal or charm that is temporarily bonded to the surface of a tooth using cosmetic dental adhesive. Tooth gems are non-invasive and do not involve drilling, piercing, or permanent alteration to the tooth.
Does getting a tooth gem hurt?
No. Tooth gem application is painless. The process does not involve needles, drilling, or discomfort.
Will a tooth gem damage my teeth?
When applied and removed correctly, tooth gems do not damage healthy enamel. Gems should only be applied to clean, fully developed adult teeth. Improper aftercare or undisclosed dental conditions may affect results.
How long do tooth gems last?
Longevity varies based on placement, oral habits, and aftercare. Tooth gems may last anywhere from several weeks to several months. Longevity is not guaranteed.
Can I remove the tooth gem myself?
No. Attempting to remove a tooth gem at home may damage enamel. If removal is desired, we recommend professional removal by a dental professional.
Are tooth gems safe?
Tooth gems are considered a cosmetic service. They should only be applied to healthy teeth. Clients with certain dental conditions may not be suitable candidates and may be asked to postpone service.
Who should NOT get a tooth gem?
Tooth gem application may not be suitable for clients who have:
- Active gum disease
- Tooth decay or suspected cavities
- Significant plaque buildup
- Current or past oral cancer
- Braces, retainers, or Invisalign that may interfere with placement
If any of these apply, we may recommend postponing service until cleared by a dental professional.
Is this a dental service?
No. Tooth gem application is a cosmetic service. Technicians are not dentists and do not diagnose or treat dental conditions.
What age do I need to be to get a tooth gem?
Clients must be at least 14 years old. Clients under 16 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present at the appointment to provide consent.
What aftercare is required?
To help maintain your tooth gem:
- Avoid touching or picking at the gem
- Avoid hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours
- Maintain good oral hygiene
- Avoid excessive pressure on the gem
Improper aftercare may result in premature detachment.
What happens if my tooth gem falls off?
Tooth gems may detach due to normal wear or oral habits. Premature detachment is not considered a complication. Reapplication may require a new appointment and fee.
Can I get a tooth gem if I have veneers, crowns, or dental work?
Tooth gems will not be applied to veneers, crowns, or dental restorations. If you have restorations please let us know in the waiver so we can apply the gems to suitable teeth.
Do I need to see a dentist before getting a tooth gem?
Routine dental checkups are recommended for overall oral health, but a dental visit is not required unless you have a known or suspected dental condition.
Why do I need to complete a waiver?
The waiver ensures that clients understand the cosmetic nature of the service, potential risks, aftercare responsibilities, and suitability requirements prior to application.
